Toner is a fine powder used for printing equipments (printers, copiers, fax machines). Often, this term also indicates the cartridge which generally contains the toner, even if the need to manage the toner powder involves also trays, developer, bottles, pcu and spare parts. When the toner and consumables reach their end of life and we need to replace them, they become a special waste and need to be treated and managed properly in order to prevent dispersion of harmful substances.
About 10 million toner cartridges are used each year in Italy.
Among these, only 1 million are properly collected and recovered from the producers, mainly through individual systems (in Italy, unlike most European countries, you can not use the National Post system for the collection and shipment of used toner).
The SAFE Group offers a service dedicated to the management of toner and exhausted consumables.
All exhausted toner are treated by an Italian facility, unique in the industry, which ensures high recovery rates through the use of cutting-edge technologies.
Treatment process consists essentially in the grinding of the waste and the subsequent selection of secondary raw materials of result, such as aluminum, steel, iron, plastic and copper.
